Celebrating lilacs!

On opening weekend the Wilder Farm will be celebrating the beauty of lilacs and are offering a piece of lilacs from the Wilder Farm to visitors!

In a Mother Earth Gardener article titled A Celebration of Lilacs, by Samantha Johnson, published on February 26, 2019, the author writes about the lilacs mentioned in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book Farmer Boy stating, “Lilacs growing today on the Wilder Homestead in Malone, New York, are believed to descend from the 19th-century lilacs described in her book.”

Volunteers gathered earlier in the spring, just as our lilac was starting to bloom, to pot up dozens of cuttings. We'll offer them to visitors for a donation to the Buildings & Grounds fund.

If you’d like to support the Farm, one way to do so is to make a donation to our Buildings & Grounds Fund in exchange for a Wilder Farm lilac for your yard or garden. Pack a picnic and make your way to the Wilder Homestead for a family outing on the grounds and, if you like, take a guided tour.

Everyone loves lilacs! So, take home a lilac from the Farm and experience the beautiful, fragrant springtime blooms and a piece of Wilder Farm history for many years to come .

Opening May 24th for the season! We'll open at 10am Saturday, Sunday, and Memorial Day with tours at 10, 12, and 2. The visitor center with museum and gift shop is open to the public at no charge during open hours. Open Wednesday through Sunday throughout the summer. Check later for autumn days and hours.
